************************ OPP continues investigation into couple's death

ST. CHARLES, ON, Jan. 6 - The Ontario Provincial Police continues to investigate the deaths of a man and woman, whose bodies were recovered from the scene of a fire earlier this week in St. Charles, Ontario.

The remains of Carmen Lapalme, 58, were found in the family's burned out farmhouse at 252 Casimir Road on Jan. 4, 2005.

The remains of a man, believed to be her husband Gerry, 61, were also found, although positive identification has not yet been determined. A post mortem examination conducted on Carmen Lapalme determined she died as a result of gunshot wounds.

An autopsy of the man indicated he had suffered a gunshot wound, however, further testing is required to determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation does not indicate there is anyone else involved in these deaths. The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Pritchard, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
