This new initiative, the New Shining Moon Workshop Series, is brought to you by a group of young people and organizations supporting youth from northern and southern Ontario. This free online workshop series was co-created, with Northern Lights Collaborative, Young Leaders Circle, CatalystsX and Koach Katrina; sponsored by Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund.

Together, with over 20 young facilitators from across the country, we are hosting over 40 online workshops beginning April 6, 2020 to April 30, 2020. These online gatherings are for young people from across Northern Turtle Island (Canada) who want to: connect with other young people, develop their leadership and storytelling skills, build relationships, make change as leaders in their communities and for those that would simply like to step out of their comfort zone. Although our focus is on connecting with young people, anyone is welcome to join this series. '

Some workshops include creative writing and song writing, beading, ZUMBA, cooking classes, art and painting, 2SLGBTQ+ open space, self-care practises, goal setting and much more. One can find more information by joining our main Facebook event page “New Shining Moon Workshop Series” or by emailing Caceila Trahan ([email protected]). There will be links for people to join our online platform from the facebook page or links can be provided by email as well. Participants can choose to share their microphone or video but are not required to. People may choose to interact with the facilitator and other participants, or they may just sit and enjoy watching and listening.

We are all settling into a new reality and we want to help the people, organizations and groups we are connected to thrive through this new time. We are always making history as young changemakers but in particular a global pandemic is new territory for many of us in living memory. We believe that as Indigenous, racialized and allies we are well positioned to respond with community care and have a lot of learning to offer our world. We are thankful that Mama Aki (Mother Earth) is having this chance to rest from our strain. In the meantime, we want to help young people cope with this new reality.
