City Council will be asked Monday to start the process of planning a new twin-pad arena to replace the 51-year-old W.J. McMeeken Centre.

An ice utilization study by Toronto-based LeisurePlan International Inc. has determined that potential demand for indoor ice over the next 20 years will warrant construction of a new municipal arena.

Councillors will be asked Monday to authorize a staff report outlining facility options, associated costs and financing options for the new facility.

Monday's City Council meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.
