New Sault Transit routes, schedules start next weekend

Riders are advised to pay attention to signage on new routes and be aware that some bus stops and shelters will be decommissioned or covered until removal in order to reflect the new routes

Beginning Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, the City of Sault Ste. Marie Transit Services will implement its school year schedule.

The new bus routes and schedules have been designed to meet the needs of the community and respond to rider’s feedback.

“We heard the needs of our riders and are looking forward to implementing their feedback into our school year schedule,” said Sam Piraino, manager of transit and parking. “As we continue to implement the findings of the Transit Optimization Study, bus routes will be adjusted to create opportunities to optimize service, improve service quality and better meet the needs of our community. We thank our riders for their patience as we work to provide an enhanced user experience.”

Some highlights of the new schedule include:

  • All buses returning to half hour service from 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. There will be no changes to evening and weekend hours of service.
  • Fourth Line area Northern Community Bus will now be accessible by an on demand service. Please contact Transit Services for more information.

Route changes include:

  • Eastside Route #1 – Will now stop at the Station Mall on its inbound trip.
  • Great Northern Route #2 – Will access Fourth Line by travelling North on Great Northern Road after leaving the Davey Home and turning around at the Grand Gardens North.
  • Riverside / McNabb Route #5 – Will service Terrance Road to Old Garden River Road then continue down to Second Line and Pine Street.
  • North Street Route #6 – No changes to service from 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. Evening and weekend service will change to include service to the P–Patch and Pawating Place.
  • Central Community Bus: Minor changes to the route and extended hours of service from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Riders are advised to pay attention to signage on new routes and be aware that some bus stops and shelters will be decommissioned or covered until removal in order to reflect the new routes.

Transit Services will continue to evaluate and monitor schedules following implementation of the school year schedule and may make adjustments as needed.

During this transition, the Transit Trip Planner will not be available, riders are asked to view new route maps and transit schedules, at saultstemarie.ca/transit.
