Local CTV stations in Kitchener, London and Windsor have taken a hit in the latest round of layoffs at Bell Media.

The layoffs affect broadcast positions in all three cities. According to the Canadian Press, Bell Media spokesman Scott Henderson would only confirm that the company had cut positions in the three cities but did not confirm the number of jobs cut.

Local sports coverage was affected at all three stations.

CTV made a similar move in Barrie earlier this year that saw the station opt for a national sportscast as opposed to a local one.

In a prepared statement, Unifor Media Director Howard Law said “These cuts give people less of a reason to turn to local news. The CRTC is about to grant CTV a new license for local TV programming, they had better be paying attention to this.”

In the release, Law also said that more cuts are expected at CTV stations across the country.

Unifor represents more than 12,000 workers in the media sector nationally.
