John Carroll and his company "Green Power Energy Solutions Inc." are the new owners of the Sault's favourite garden centre, New North Greenhouses. John has met with all key staff and operations are to continue as usual, in what will be a seamless transition to the business on Airport Road.

John currently holds a Diploma from Oaksterdam University Horticultural Program and comes to the job with a background in greenhouse management in southern Ontario, where he was responsible for the production of 1.5 million plants annually.

He later changed career paths, graduating "top of the class" from the aviation program at Confederation College, after which he flew for a number of commercial airlines including Bearskin, NorOntair, Air Atlantic and Porter. Since John is an entrepreneur at heart, he went on to develop a number of small air service companies including the design and building of aircraft to haul fuel to remote northern communities.

He later built and operated a number of green energy companies involved in solar and LED lighting, including Green Power Energy Solutions Inc. His company now manufactures and supplies the cannabis and greenhouse sector with commercial grow lighting equipment, energy efficient solutions and licensing services.

John has successfully supported many new cannabis companies, from licensing with Health Canada, through design and build, leading to a number of successful new licensed producers under the Cannabis Act.

John lived for a time in the Sault Ste. Marie while flying for NorOntair, and has always wanted to return. John has three children in their twenties, two still living at home while attending college and university.

He recently purchased a home in Sault Ste. Marie near New North and hopes to continue expanding operations at the New North property to include a state-of-the art hydroponic cannabis production facility, employing over 100 people.

Staff at New North are busy ordering seeds and plants for the spring 2019 season. Gift certificates will still be available at Shaw Milling. John wants to thank all of New North’s loyal customers over the past 36 years and to assure everyone that he is committed to serving the community for years to come.
