Parents seeking more diversity in the educational options available to their elementary aged children will have an alternate choice when school begins this September. Meadow Park Montessori School has announced the opening of their Lower Elementary program, a first for our city, for children in the first – third Grades.

Meadow Park Montessori School, located at 339 Elizabeth St. in Sault Ste. Marie, has been delivering educational excellence to children from 18 months through Senior Kindergarten since 2007. The expansion into Lower Elementary will continue to deliver the proven century old method of learning as developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. The school provides a creative, adaptive environment that responds to the needs of children and inspires children to develop inner discipline, self-assurance and a love of learning.

“We’ve been fortunate over the past ten years to be able to introduce the Montessori method of learning to many wonderful families here in Sault Ste. Marie,” says the school’s Head Directress Tricia Harding. “Most families are unfamiliar with the Montessori approach when they first begin with us and it is quite rewarding for our teaching staff when these families gain an understanding and appreciation for this model of education.”

The growing appreciation of Montessori learning within our city will now allow children to maximize their exploration, creativity, and independent learning beyond preschool and Kindergarten. The philosophy of a Montessori Education is that a child learns best within a social environment, which supports each individual’s unique development. Montessori programs look at a child's intelligence as a fertile field that has limitless boundaries. It believes in the approach that the child will have an accelerated growth if he/she is allowed to explore their imaginations by providing a favourable environment that acts as a stimulant for their growth.

Students learn to view themselves as contributing members of a diverse global community. The school respects and values differences, and looks with an open mind at all members of the community, seeking to understand and value them for who they are. The staff, the parents and the children communicate clearly and openly and treat each other with honesty and mutual respect.

Meadow Park Montessori is dedicated to providing an enriching and challenging educational environment where each child is encouraged to grow to his or her fullest potential academically, emotionally and socially.

No prior Montessori experience is required and families can learn more about Meadow Park Montessori School and the Lower Elementary program by scheduling a personal tour of the facilities or visiting here.
