NEWS RELEASE
JOCEYLN TOWNSHIP RECREATION COMMITTEE
*************************
The Jocelyn Township Recreation Committee is excited to announce the opening of our new disc golf course on St. Joseph Island. Disc golf, sometimes called frisbee golf, is played similarly to “normal” or ball golf, except instead of hitting a ball with a club, players throw a plastic disc.

The goal is to have the disc land in the metal target or “basket” in as few throws as possible. The sport is an easy-to-learn activity that all ages and skills can enjoy.

The Mountainview Disc Golf Course is located in the hilly maple forest of Jocelyn Township’s Mountainview Centennial Park, next to the Jocelyn Township Office and Fire Hall at 3670 5th Side Road. It is open to the public and free to play. Maps and scorecards are also available on site. Currently, the first nine holes are ready to play, but an additional nine are in the works and slated to be completed later this summer.

The course winds through the picturesque hills, trees and trails that used to be part of the historic Gapp family farm and orchard, finishing with a spectacular view of the Island from the top of the toboggan hill. The Mountainview Disc Golf Course has been in the works for nearly a year, with lots of support from volunteers to design and construct the course and financial support from Jocelyn Township.

The Jocelyn Recreation Committee is hosting an Opening Day event on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.. Everyone is welcome to come for a tour of the course, some informal instruction in the rules and skills, and the chance to play a round. Discs will be available to borrow, so stop by and check it out! For more information, the latest updates and event information, follow Jocelyn Recreation on Facebook or check out the Jocelyn Township’s website. Anyone can play the course at any time, all you need is a disc or two.
