Officers with the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) in Sault Ste. Marie seized 1.68 kilograms of suspected MDMA from a traveller entering Canada from the United States Aug. 28.

According to a social media post from CBSA Monday, the value of the suspected MDMA seized at the border is estimated at $58,000.

CBSA spokesperson Louis-Carl Brissette Lesage informed SooToday via email that the traveller was referred for a secondary examination. The suspected MDMA was subsequently located in the vehicle.

"This is a great interception by the CBSA, which has kept a substantial amount of suspected MDMA from entering our communities," said Brissette Lesage.

The investigation is ongoing.
