Farrah Khan, a nationally recognized change maker and advocate for gender-based violence, will be at Sault College tomorrow, Thursday, Mar. 23, 2017, to speak on Sexual Assault, Consent and Relationship Violence Awareness.

Farrah will make two presentations: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 – 6 p.m. at Sault College in room B1170. These events are free and open to the public.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate to learn more from this exceptional public speaker and educator. Light refreshments will be available.

Farrah is dedicated to ensuring marginalized voices are centered, heard and amplified. Hosted by Sault College Student Services, Farrah’s presentation will raise awareness and provide important information surrounding cultivating consent, accountability and empathy on campus.

About Farrah Khan

Farrah Khan picked up a microphone to speak out about sexual assault as a teenager and has not put it down since. She has spent the last seventeen years working diligently to raise awareness of gender-based violence through art creation, education, counselling and community development. 

Farrah is a nationally recognized public speaker and educator on violence against women including sexual violence, forced marriage and “honour” related violence.

She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and works at Ryerson University as the Sexual Violence Support and Education coordinator. She is co-chair of the Ontario Provincial Roundtable on Violence Against Women.

Farrah has co-created innovative community-centered initiatives including Heartbeats: the IZZAT Project, Use the Right Words: Media Reporting on Sexual Violence in Canada and Outburst! Young Muslim Women Project.

Farrah conducted trainings across North America on violence against women and developed a risk assessment/safety planning tool on “honor” related violence and forced marriage.

Farrah is regularly sought out by national media including the CBC and the Globe and Mail for her expertise in addressing violence against women.

An emerging leader in grassroots equity movements, Farrah has been presented with numerous awards, including the Toronto Vital People Award and the Canadian Council of Muslim Women.
