National Chief visits the Sault

Phil Fontaine, national leader of the Assembly of First Nations, will be in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday to attend a strategic planning workshop of Mamaweswen, the North Shore Tribal Council.

The gathering is aimed at developing a new environment program for both the tribal council and local First Nations.

Other participants include Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Chief Earl Commanda, North Shore Tribal Council chairperson Angus Toulouse, and environmental consultant Peggy Wilson.

North Shore Tribal Council represents seven First Nations located along the north shore of Lake Huron within the Robinson-Huron Treaty area.

The meeting is taking place at the Holiday Inn.
