Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Hwy.17, City of Greater Sudbury

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Sudbury Detachment and the Regional Technical Traffic Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Kings Highway 17, Southeast by-pass.

On Saturday, December 10th, 2005, at approximately 8:30am, fifty six (56) year old Carmen Hunter of Sudbury, Ontario was traveling eastbound on Highway 17, when the vehicle she was operating crossed the center line and collided with a westbound vehicle. Mrs Hunter was transported to the St. Josephs Health Centre and succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, Rita Ranger a forty five (45) year old resident of Wahnapitae, Ontario was also transported to the St. Josephs Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries. The highway’s West bound lane was closed for several hours while the scene was documented and the debris was cleared from the roadway.

The police are continuing their investigation and do not anticipate any charges forth coming.

The highway has been re-openned.
