N. Douglas Gaetz, LLB, QC: 1938-2012

SooToday.com has received the following notice from the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre regarding the passing of a well-known retired Sault Ste. Marie lawyer who served locally in the Crown Attorney's office and in private practice:

GAETZ, N. Douglas LLB, QC – Passed away with family by his side at the FJ Davey home on Friday, November 23, 2012.

Beloved husband of Anne for 45 years.

Loving and best dad of Joanne Gaetz (Ben Pascuzzi) and Michael Gaetz of Thunder Bay.

Adored grandfather of Vanessa and Matteo Pascuzzi, Madeline, Amelia and Sebastian Gaetz.

Doug served the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area for over 45 years as a Crown Attorney and in private practice.

He graduated from McGill University in 1964 to go to Osgoode Law School where he was called to the Bar in 1967.

He started his law career in private practice and shortly thereafter he joined the Crown Attorney’s office where he would serve 10 years.

He then went back to private practice in criminal law until he retired in 2005.

Doug had many colleagues and friends in the legal profession and in the community of Sault Ste. Marie.

He loved law, the outdoors, Batchawana Bay and his family.

He was always a gentleman and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

In respecting Doug’s wishes, a private family service will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre.

Memorial contributions to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society would be appreciated.
