Last month, we were telling how the Sault Ste. Marie Professional Fire Fighters Association was ending its 50-year tradition of holding annual boat draws, citing excessive bureaucratic red tape. Today, the firefighters are announcing details of an alternative fundraiser, designed to continue their honourable tradition of supporting worthy causes.
The first-ever Music Fest will be held at Roberta Bondar Tent Pavilion on Tuesday July 19 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
"All proceeds from this event will be distributed among various local charities," says event convenor Marcel Provenzano. "This event will be taking the place of our annual Choice of Toys draw. The Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission has made it difficult to get rid of the money under the Gaming Act and as a result we are hosting a completely new venue."
Five local bands are on the ticket: Stiffler's Mom, Boogie Fever and three younger bands supplied by Mike Case's Music.
The youth bands are Skurtz, Mommaz Boyz, and Case's New Junior Allstars, all featuring musicians aged 10 to 18.
It's a family event with alcohol-free refreshments available on site.
Admission is by donation at the gate, with no advance tickets.
There will also be some door prizes.
