The last people to talk to Karl Warm were at the Sault, Michigan airport. That was on a snowy day in December 1989 and the control tower advised the Escanaba, Michigan pilot to increase his altitude because he'd fallen below their radar.

Today, WLUC TV6 is reporting that bear hunters have discovered a small plane in a swamp near Engadine in Mackinac County.

The craft's serial number identifies it as Warm's, missing since December 1, 1989.

Human remains are visible inside the plane, the television station reports.

Warm was trying to get back to Escanaba by following US-2 through a snowstorm.

Until now, authorities had believed he went down in the lake.
