Tanya Green, special events co-ordinator with the United Way, looks on as Mike Hulit colours in the first $200,000 raised in this year's campaign.

Campaign chair Brian Curran announced Thursday night that the drive is one-fifth of the way to its target of $1 million.

Early pacesetters have included PUC Services, Great Lakes Power Ltd., Soo Mill Lumber and United Way's own staff.

The event was sponsored by the Marconi Club.

The United Way's next major fund-raiser is Saturday's Starlight Filmfest, an all-night movie night for secondary school students at Galaxy Cinemas.
