Kindly disregard anything you're hearing around town about Mayor Christian Provenzano not seeking re-election in next year's municipal race.

The mayor says he has no idea where that kind of talk might be coming from, and you will see his name on the ballot.

"I certainly hope to, that's the plan," Provenzano told SooToday on Friday.

"You're probably aware that I'm having a second child in a couple months," the mayor told us.

"Obviously we want to see how that goes, but currently the plan is  I have every intention of running."

Mayor Provenzano married Kyleigh Binkley at the Art Gallery of Algoma on May 16, 2015 seven months after he defeated Austin Williams, Ted Johnston, Robin Coull, Heather Cook and incumbent Debbie Amaroso to win the mayoralty.

The couple welcomed  their first-born, Isla Ann Marie, on Mar. 11, 2016.

Next year's election will take place on Oct. 22, 2018.
