Indicating that he wasn't feeling well, Mayor John Rowswell left tonight's meeting of City Council early.
Rowswell, who didn't indicate the nature of his illness, left the Council Chambers at 8:25 p.m. after completing a mayoral proclamation and accepting a Communities in Bloom award.
"I apologize to Council. I'm going to take leave," Rowswell said, indicating he'd arranged for a ride.
Ward 5 Councillor David Celetti took over the chair after the mayor left.
Time to make some noise, hospital tells City
Sault Area Hospital is still on track to open its new location in 2008, but it's time for the community to get involved in persuading the province that the project is a priority, hospital officials told City Council tonight.
A revised space plan and financing plan was submitted to the Ministry of Health late last month, SAH chair Bill Walker told councillors.
Subsequent discussions have taken place between hospital and ministry staff and further discussions are planned for December, Walker said.
Construction work is expected to be tendered in the fall of next year.
It's not known what form of advocacy role the hospital will seek from the City, but details are expected to be made public before the end of the year.
