Masked men use gun in home invasion (3 photos)

There are no injuries, it is unclear if anything was taken

Three men wearing black masks invaded a home and held two occupants at gunpoint Friday morning, say police.

The incident occurred between 7:30 and 8 a.m. at a residence on the 400 block of Third Avenue, said a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service press release today.

After forcing their way inside, the masked men confined the occupants to a part of the house and proceeded to search throughout. However, it is unknown at this time if they took anything, said Const. Sonny Spina.

“The two victims were held in an area, so it's not known if they took anything. But nothing obvious was taken,” he said.

During the incident, no weapons were fired and there are no known injuries, said Spina.

After the home invasion, the suspects fled north in a 2000s era dark-coloured pickup truck towards Second Line West, stated the press release.

As reported earlier today, between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. five police cars and at least as many officers focused investigation efforts in the bushes and parking lot surrounding the Northern Credit Union on Second Line West and Goulais Avenue.

Const. Spina said the Northern Credit Union itself is not part of the incident — it wasn’t robbed — but could not give any details about why that area was searched as the investigation is ongoing.

Police officers were also seen searching the parking lot and inside the apartment buildings just north of the bank.

The masked men are described as being medium build, but no other details are known at this time.

Police are continuing the investigation and ask that if anyone has any information to contact Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
