Algoma Steel Inc. has given notice this week of temporary layoff to about 10 employees.

"Market conditions are such that we must take appropriate measures to ensure the health of the business through the bottom of the cycle and for the long term," Brenda Stenta, Algoma's manager of communications and branding, tells SooToday.

The layoffs are across the steel works.

"We regret we must take this difficult step and are very sensitive to the impact on our employees, their families and the community at large," Stenta says.

"We are monitoring the situation closely and hope to welcome them back as market conditions improve."
