Police are looking for a black SUV following a hit and run that sent a man to hospital with life threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened near the intersection of Second Line West and Turner Avenue during the noon hour.
The SUV, which was traveling eastbound at the time of the collision, fled the scene heading eastbound on Second Line West.
Katie Harman, owner of Black Swan Tattoos, says that she was sitting at her computer near the big bay windows of her shop when she heard a loud noise.
She then noticed that a number of vehicles were rushing into her parking lot.
“I got up and saw the body on the ground,” said Harman. “I immediately ran out to him.”
Her sister, who apprentices at the tattoo shop, ran outside with Harman to assess the situation.
Harman says that her sister - a personal support worker (PSW) by trade - helped the man while waiting for paramedics to arrive on scene.
“She rolled the man over, we used a pillow from the shop to support his airway, like his head, because he wasn’t breathing,” Harman said. “Then they had to do life support [resuscitation] on him.”
She said paramedics tended to what appeared to be severe head trauma, stating the victim was "covered in blood."
“It was pretty bad.”
The public is asked to contact Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or Crime Stoppers if they have any information regarding the incident.
