Man hospitalized as a result of Manitou Drive house fire (6 photos)

One cat was recovered from the house

One man was taken to hospital and one cat is missing as a result of an east end house fire this afternoon, says a city fire official.

Joe May, platoon chief with the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services, said one adult male was transported to Sault Area Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One cat was recovered alive from the house, while a second remains missing at press time.

The fire, which was called in at 3:54 p.m., originated in the basement, said May.

By 4:39 the fire was under control, said May.

"(The fire was) not suspicious in nature, however city fire will be doing an investigation into the cause," said May.
