A Sault Ste. Marie man has been fined a total of $2,000 for an illegal game bird hunt.

Cameron Tucker pleaded guilty and was fined $500 for unlawfully hunting a game bird during the closed season, $500 for hunting a turkey without a licence, $500 for trespassing for the purpose of hunting, and $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer. Tucker also received a three-year hunting prohibition on top of a two-year ban for another hunting offence. His shotgun was permanently forfeited to the Crown.

Court heard that on April 29, 2017, a conservation officer received a complaint from a St. Joseph Island landowner of individuals trespassing on his property while hunting game birds. An investigation revealed that Tucker killed a ring-necked pheasant during the closed season and killed a wild turkey without a licence. Tucker also made false statements to the officer.

Justice of the Peace James Bubba heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sault Ste. Marie, on Aug. 9, 2017.
