MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES – On Nov. 13, 2016 at 7:10 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling Highway 17, east of Thessalon when they observed a motor vehicle being operated at a fast rate of speed. 

The driver attempted to evade police by pulling into a driveway. The male driver ran into the bush and was located approximately one hour later. 

As a result of the investigation, Ronald Baron (41) of Thessalon, Ontario, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving while Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;
  • Driving while Disqualified (X3), contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code;
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada; and
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act;

The accused is scheduled to appear in Court on Nov. 14, 2016 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
