Male charged with impaired and stunt driving

A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 548 and the male driver was arrested for stunt driving

ST JOSEPH ISLAND – On March 26, 2016 at 5:50 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were on regular patrol duties on 10TH Side Road near the intersection of Highway 548, Richards Landing, when an officer observed a vehicle spinning its tires and fish tailing in an eastbound direction.   

A traffic stop was initiated on Highway 548 and the male driver was arrested for stunt driving. 

When speaking with the driver, the police determined that the male driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. 

As a result of the investigation, Cecil Jacob Aelick, 25 years of age, from Hilton Beach, ON was charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired-Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Driving with More Than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and;
  • Race a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on May 5, 2016.

THESSALON FIRST NATION – On March 26, 2016 at 12:31 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed an unoccupied Off Road Vehicle (ORV) running in the parking lot of a business on Thessalon First Nation. 

Police later saw the ORV on Biish Road and a traffic stop was conducted. 

While speaking with the driver, the police determined that the male driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. 

As a result of the investigation, Walker McColman, 20 years of age, from Thessalon First Nation, ON, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;

  • Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code;

  • Novice Driver – B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Content) above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, on May 5, 2016.
