Organizers of the Winter Cities Forum are inviting all youth to a special one-day forum next Monday at Algoma's Water Tower Inn.

Organizers of the Winter Cities Forum are inviting all youth to a special one-day forum next Monday at Algoma's Water Tower Inn.

The Winter Cities Forum, an international conference that focuses on the promotion of sustainable community development in northern communities, begins on Friday and continues through Monday.

The affiliated Youth Forum will include discussions and workshops focussing on topics including innovation, success, and attracting and retaining more young talent in Canada.

Speakers will include Gene Luczkiw, founding director of The Institute for Enterprising Education; Andrew Medd, executive director of Canada 25; and Jay Allen, founder of the Humans in Training Institute.

Winter Cities youth delegates are also expected to develop a youth charter.

Registration for the Youth Forum is $15.

7:45 a.m. - Youth Registration

8:20 a.m. - Opening Remarks – Rob Derbyshire

8:30 – 9:45 a.m. - Plenary Session. Art and Science of Innovation, Gene and Jane Luczkiw, Founding Director – The Institute for Enterprise Education

9:45 – 10:15 a.m. - Introduction of Youth Charter – Mike Delfre and Carlos Reyes

10:15 – 10:30 a.m. - Break

10:30 – 11:15 a.m. - three concurrent workshops

Y1 - Strengthening Northern Communities: Linking Economic and Social Development. The presentation of this research is conducted by university students in the Community Economic and Social Development (CESD) BA program at Algoma University College, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The CESD program is designed to serve the development needs of northern communities. Y2 - A New Magnetic North – Offers suggestions to individual sectors on specific action that can be taken to attract and retain more young talent in Canada. Y3 - Success stories and testimonials from the High North Brenda Jancke, Councillor – Cambridge Bay, Nunavut Echos of the World – Jackie Fletcher (invited) 11:20 – 12:05 p.m. - Repeat of Y1, Y2, Y3
