Doctors ski the trails for healthcare!

Dr. James Curran and Dr. Phillip Dopp, two anesthesiologists at Sault Area Hospital, are gathering pledges for an event they co-chair called Ski the Trails.

This is the second year of this event in support of the Sault Area Hospital Foundation and they are encouraging individuals and teams of (two or three people) to gather pledges and come out and join them.

Registration fees are: individuals $50 (or $100 in pledges) and teams $100 (or $250 in pledges).

It all takes place on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Hiawatha Highlands with registration beginning at 8 a.m., followed by the event at 9 a.m.

Participants can expect prizes, refreshments and a great day of skiing!

Dr. Curran explains: “Dr. Dopp and I started this event last year and it only involved the two of us. We raised over $6,000 to support equipment purchases at Sault Area Hospital. We decided this year that we can do even better and want to involve more people to raise more money for the Surgical Department and the Fund for Better Care. We both ski all three trails for a total 33.5 km.”

"Since Dr. Curran and I both enjoy this sport and it is such great exercise, we might as well combine the two to raise money for this great cause. The Sault Area Hospital Foundation must raise money so that we as physicians and the great staff can have the best possible equipment for the benefit of our patients,” said Dr. Dopp.

“We are very fortunate to have such great physicians at Sault Area Hospital that support us with events like this. Additionally, having sponsors such as Hiawatha Highlands, Soo Nordic Finish Ski Club, The Medicine Shoppe (Doctors Building) and RBC Wealth Management (Kevin Hodson) make this event possible,” said David Shier, development officer, Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

“Participants will enjoy a great time skiing the beautiful trails at Hiawatha Highlands, all while supporting a great cause. Prizes have been donated from ABC Bicycle Co. BMO Nesbitt Burns, Duke of Windsor Sports Shop and Velorution Bikes and Skis. If you can’t participate you can pledge someone such as your own physician, friend or you can sponsor either Dr. Curran or Dr. Dopp,” explains Shier.

All the information can be found on the Foundation website at www.sahfoundation.com.

You can print off a pledge sheet, gather your pledges and turn it in to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation at 750 Great Northern Road, or bring it the day of the event.
