JOINT NEWS RELEASE

49th FIELD REGIMENT
AND 31 SERVICE BATTALION

*************************
Army Reserve Recognition Day Award Presentation

SAULT STE MARIE, ON,—The Army Reserve has long provided the Army’s connection to the Canadian population through its geographic dispersion and employment of Canada’s Citizen Soldiers from 110 communities.

The Afghan mission has served to highlight the capabilities the Army’s Reserve has, and the considerable contribution that was made to executing the mission both overseas and at home.

Army Reservists have sustained commitments to both expeditionary and domestic missions.

Although we are One Army, it is necessary to let the Canadian Public know what the Army Reserve’s contribution has been to the Army’s missions and to identify some of our outstanding Citizen Soldiers whose military contributions may otherwise go unnoticed in their day-to-day civilian lives.

October 3rd is a significant date in the history of the Army Reserve.

It was on this date in 1914, that the 1st Canadian Division sailed from Gaspe Quebec en route to Europe at the start of World War I.

Our unit wishes to invite members of the community to come interact with our members and have a chance to enjoy some
realistic displays of who we are.

49th Field Regiment will be conducting an Open House on October 3, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 375 Pine Street, Sault Ste. Marie.

49th Field Regiment would like to celebrate the accomplishments of Master Bombardier Stephen Rowley (49th Fd) and his employer Wilderness Group.

31 Service Battalion would like to recognize Sergeant Jantje Bomhof and his employer Soo Mill by presenting them with 31 Canadian Brigade Group certificates of appreciation.

The presentations will take place at 4 p.m.

MBdr Rowley has been a member of 49th Fd for over 12 years and in that time has made many contributions to the success of the Regiment and his peers.

He has trained hard and sacrificed his time for Canada twice by being part of ROTO’s 1-10 and 3-07 in Afghanistan as a member of an Artillery 155mm Howitzer gun troop.

His employer, Wilderness Group has supported MBdr Rowley with his continued training in 49th Fd, as well as supporting MBdr Rowley during his tour to Afghanistan and upon his return.
