Starting Wednesday, the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library is reopening the doors of its 232 Northern Ave. (North Branch) location.

The library will be open Monday to Friday 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. and will be closed on weekends.

Due to COVID-19, a number of library services are still suspended, including:
  • Room rentals
  • Copying/scanning/faxing services
  • Visiting library service
  • Daily periodicals/newspapers
  • Educational toys in the children’s areas
  • Study area space
  • Self-service public access catalogues
  • Water fountains
  • 3D printing
  • VHS-DVD conversion
  • In-library programming (the library has noted that virtual programming for all ages will continue to be made available)
In keeping with COVID-19 health and safety protocols, the library states it is continuing with increased its cleaning protocols, mandatory face covering, and physical distancing limitations.

20 members are permitted in the North Branch and 35 members in the James L. Centennial Library at a time.

The Library stacks are open for browsing, however staff asks that any books that are handled by the public be placed on one of the carts provided for quarantine. Seating within the library will be very limited. Additional rules, such as no consumption of food and drink while in the library, are still in effect.

The Friends of the Library Bookstore has now reopened but is limited to three customers at a time. The library is currently accepting book donations at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library only, which will go into quarantine before they are either added to the Library’s collection or the book store.

A press release issued today also states all library locations, including the North Branch, will be closed on Monday Nov. 23, 2020 for a staff development day.
