NEWS RELEASE
ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 25
***********************
On Friday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m., the Legion’s Poppy Campaign will kick off with the flag raising ceremony at the courthouse on Queen Street. The Poppy Campaign is the only national event of the Royal Canadian Legion and is held yearly from the last Friday in October until Nov. 11. Members and veterans will assemble along with our elected officials for the event.

On Nov. 11 we encourage all Canadians to take a moment to remember those who served our country during times of conflict. The parade will form up inside the GFL Memorial Gardens at 9:45 a.m. move off at 10 a.m. going along Bay Street, up Elgin Street, going east on Queen Street to the cenotaph for a wreath-laying ceremony. The parade will then proceed west on Queen Street, down Dennis Street to Bay, and back into the GFL Memorial Gardens for the Remembrance Service. With this being the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, a special presentation will take place at the beginning of the service so we ask those in attendance to be in their seats by 10:45 a.m.

The Branch 25 Poppy Committee would also like people to know that on Nov. 11, both Wacky Wings locations will be donating 15 per cent of all proceeds to the Poppy Campaign. Wacky Wings has been supporting the Branch 25 Poppy Campaign for a number of years and last year donated $1,998.55 to the campaign. Money raised helps out veterans, hospitals, and cadets with Branch 25 donating hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to these and many other worth while organizations.
