Law enforcement use bridge walk to raise money for Special Olympics (6 photos)

Officers from Ontario and Michigan participate in torch run during International Bridge Walk

Law enforcement from both sides of the border came together for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics during Saturday’s International Bridge Walk.

Officers participating in the walk shelled out $20 for a torch run t-shirt, with proceeds going toward local special olympians.

“Special Olympics is the charity of choice for law enforcement around the world, and here in Ontario, we raised $3.3 million for Special Olympics last year alone,” said Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Cnst. Shaun Bealieu.

The torch run saw law enforcement from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and correctional service workers from Ontario and Michigan take part.

“This year’s turnout was amazing,” said Beaulieu. “We had beautiful weather, and especially for a long weekend. It really raises questions - you don’t know whether you’re going to get people showing up, everybody wants to be at camp.”

“But the turnout of our runners, as well as the walkers and the bicycle parade today was amazing.”
