Eight U.S. Customs inspectors who were laid off in Sault Ste. Marie on August 20 have been called back to work, the Associated Press is reporting tonight.

The Sault inspectors were among 27 who returned to their jobs at four Michigan border crossings, the news agency said.

Six inspectors in Port Huron, seven at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit and six at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, all were recalled after being placed on 'nonduty' status before Labour Day.

The 27 inspectors were told last week to return to work, Frank Stanczak, president of Local 46 of the American Federation of Government Employees, told the Detroit Free Press.
