Provincial funding supports important upgrades and essential renovations

SAULT STE. MARIE - David Orazietti, MPP announced today that the province is providing $60,000 to the Ken Brown Recovery Home Foundation for important upgrades and essential renovations that will make the home more energy efficient and safer for the residents, volunteers and employees.

“Our government is committed to building strong communities by providing Ontarians with the supports they need to help improve their quality of life,” said Orazietti. “The Ken Brown Recovery Home has been assisting residents in Sault Ste. Marie for many years and this provincial funding will allow the foundation to make important improvements that will greatly benefit everyone who uses the programs at the home.”

The provincial funding, which is being delivered through the province’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), will enable the Ken Brown Recovery Home Foundation to make important upgrades, such as replacing the fire escape, waterproofing the basement and making the building more energy efficient in order to reduce costs.

"The Ken Brown Recovery Foundation wishes to acknowledge the kind assistance and contribution of $ 60,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to renovate its recovery and transition home for men 16 and older, who are recovering from alcohol and/or drug addiction,” said Wince Lyons, executive director of the Ken Brown Recovery Home. “The renovations will enhance the sustainability, safety and good health of the home’s residents, employees and community volunteers."

Incorporated in 1974, the Ken Brown Recovery Home Foundation provides supports for men recovering from alcohol and drug dependency.

The Foundation operates two residential programs for men in various stages of recovery, including a 14-bed recovery home and an eight-bed transition home.

Clients are offered group therapy, individual counseling and addictions education, among other services.

In addition to delivering substance abuse programming, the foundation seeks to educate the public on issues relating to substance abuse and addiction.
