The eight women and four men who will determine Tyson Noel's fate have begun their deliberations in a jury room at the Sault Ste. Marie courthouse.

Superior Court Justice Edward Gareau delivered his instructions on the law Thursday morning, and into the early afternoon, before sending the jurors to make their decision about 2:30 p.m.

Noel, 23, has pleaded not guilty to 16 charges, including multiple charges of sexual and physical assault.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in 2014 and 2015.

At the trial, which began on Feb. 27, the court heard testimony from the complainant and two other witnesses called by assistant Crown attorney Heidi Mitchell.

Noel — the only witness called by defence lawyer Eric McCooeye — also testified.

A publication ban prohibits reporting any information that could identify the complainant.
