TORONTO - Joe Krmpotich, Ontario NDP candidate in Sault Ste. Marie, took the stage at the 2017 Ontario NDP convention Saturday, speaking to more than 1,000 New Democrats from across the province as they map out a new vision for the province.

Krmpotich highlighted Sault Ste. Marie issues -- particularly the commitment he and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath have said is the cornerstone of their plan for the Sault: more good jobs and opportunities for young people in the Sault.

"Together, we are laying out a new vision for a better Ontario, and mapping out how we will get there. I'm proud to say that the people of Sault Ste. Marie are at the heart of the NDP's plan," said Krmpotich.

"Northern Ontario has been taken for granted and hurt by Premier Kathleen Wynne. Under the Wynne Liberals, people, families and businesses have faced back-breaking hydro bills, cuts to front-line health care and seniors care, and a lack of good local jobs for young people. We need a government that is focused on delivering good jobs for the Sault - especially for young people - so they can stay and raise their families in our home town."

Krmpotich said it's time for change.

"The people of Sault Ste. Marie simply cannot afford any more damage from the Wynne Liberal government.

"New Democrats will put us back on track by cutting our hydro bills by 30 per cent, and putting hydro back in public hands. We'll protect public services and make life more affordable for families. And, we'll stay focused on what really matters most to Sault families - good jobs right here in our community."
