A witness explains that the victim and alleged murderer were both in their 40s and that the accused lived in an apartment overlooking the scene of the crime.

"The guy [accused] had been in and out of his place arguing with his girlfriend a couple times," said the witness, who didn't want to be identified. "[The victim] went over there the last time they came out and then this happened." 

The witness, a friend of the victim, described the victim as a good family man and said his last action before leaving his near-by apartment last evening was to hug his 17-year-old daughter and tell her he loved her.

"He was getting ready to leave town for work for a while," said the witness of the victim.

Police are on the scene continuing their investigation.

The Soup Kitchen Community Kitchen and businesses adjacent to the scene are still accessible and the soup kitchen will be serving food today as usual.

8:30 a.m. update

On July 17, 2014, city police responded to an outdoor area in Jamestown where two men became embroiled in an argument that escalated to the point that one of the men was stabbed.

He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. 

A male suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder.

Investigators later learned that the victim had succumbed to his injuries while in hospital; as a result the accused now stands charged with murder.

The accused is being held in police custody at this time.

Names of the victim and accused are being withheld pending notification of kin.

Police are not releasing any other information at this time. 

Investigation Services continue to work on this case. 

It is believed that this is not a random act of violence.

On July 17, 2014 at about 9:50 p.m., city police responded to the Jamestown area of the city where it was reported two men became embroiled in an argument.

The argument escalated to the point that one of the men was stabbed.

He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police are currently continuing their investigation into the incident.
