Despite the cold temperatures and wet weather almost 300 local kids and their families attended the first annual Kids' Fall Fishing Day at Kinsmen Park hosted by Algoma Fish and Game Club. 250 splake (a cross between brook and lake trout) provided by the MNRF were sought after by the young anglers on Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in two ponds provided by the St. Joseph Island Anglers and Hunters.

The National Professional Anglers' Association (NPAA) donated t-shirts and rod/reel combos, bait was sponsored by Hi-Way Variety Outfitters, Kinsmen Club supplied the venue and Tim Hortons supplied coffee, hot chocolate and muffins for volunteers that was also enjoyed by some participants parents.

Once the kids were all fished out and everyone had pictures of their catch, the remaining splake were released in the reservoir for continued family fun at Kinsmen Park.

If you missed the event you can still take your chances! We look forward to hosting this event next year. Thanks again to the many volunteers that included club members, parents and their children, Sault College, and others from our community.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for the famous Algoma Fish and Game Club's Kids' Perch Derby on March 10.
