Important news today? (gratuitous photo of Trish Stratus)

The last time anyone promised us "important" news about the local transportation infrastructure was in August of last year.

Back then, the Tories were in power provincially and Frank Klees was Ontario's Minister of Transportation.

SooToday.com dutifully wrote an advance story about the forthcoming "important" news.

Heck, we even included this nice picture of Mr. Klees discussing important transportation infrastructure issues with one of his loyal constituents, Trish Stratus of WWE wrestling fame.

But when it came to the moment of the big pronouncement, Klees turned out to be just another all-promise, no-performance kind of guy.

Instead of delivering important news, he proudly announced $1.76 million worth of previously announced road projects.

Most of the work he talked about was actually underway at the time.

With that cautionary background, we want you to know that, once again, your politicians are promising to dish about a "large" transportation infrastructure project.

They've summoned the local barbarians of the press to the Civic Centre at 10:30 this morning.

No cabinet ministers this time, but we're assured that Sault MP Carmen Provenzano will appear on behalf of federal Transport Minister Tony Valeri, and MPP David Orazietti will be there on behalf of Ontario's new Transportation Minister, Harinder Takhar, who we understand has never discussed important transportation infrastructure issues with Trish Stratus.

But the spinmeisters are telling us that this time, there really will be big news.

And heck, the invitation says they'll be serving refreshments.

Count on it - SooToday.com News will be there!
