How Donna and Anna-Lisa saved the bum slides

If anyone's having trouble finding a Krazy Carpet to buy these days, blame Donna Gregg and Anna Lisa Gioia.

If anyone's having trouble finding a Krazy Carpet to buy these days, blame Donna Gregg and Anna Lisa Gioia.

When the Fantasy Kingdom bum slides got really sticky yesterday, Bon Soo General Manager Gregg and event/volunteer coordinator Gioia put their heads together and came up with a way to keep the popular venue open.

They went to some local merchants and bought out all their Krazy Carpets.

Even though they said the speed-inducing snow sliders had been outlawed in years past, Gregg and Gioia felt they'd have to bend the rules if they wanted to let the kids slide this year.

"It was better than sending them all home," said Gregg.

So yesterday evening the pair went shopping and today over 600 area kids gave the not-very-slippery slopes a whirl on the new sliders.

They're expecting about 600 school kids a day through Thursday of this week and they want to make sure they have a good slide at Fantasy Kingdom, no matter the weather, said Gregg.

As the first group of kids arrived this afternoon, the slides had speeded up significantly and few Krazy Carpets were needed.

Some took advantage of another ingenious solution to the friction dilemma - big plastic bags - but most elected to bum it down.

Gregg said the Krazy Carpets will be on site at Fantasy Kingdom for the duration of the festival this year.

"It's supposed to get a bit warmer again this weekend so we have them, just in case we need them," she said.

But Gregg isn't all that worried about the weather for the rest of the festival.

"We're right on the river," she said. "That is better for us because we get the wind chill."
