NEWS RELEASE

THE CITY OF SAULT STE. MARIE

*************************
The city’s Public Works and Engineering Services Department would like to inform residents that the last drop-off day of the year at the Household Hazardous Waste Depot (HHW) will be Oct. 28, 2017. The facility will reopen in the Spring 2018. Residents are encouraged to bring acceptable household hazardous waste items to the HHW located at 402 Fifth Line E. (City Landfill).

Items such as paint, varnishes, pesticides, pool chemicals, drain cleaners, motor oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, electronics and clean packaging Styrofoam are accepted. For a complete list of acceptable waste visit www.saultstemarie.ca/hhw.

When possible, residents are asked to bring items to the HHW clearly marked and in their original containers. All services provided by the HHW are free of charge to Algoma District residents with no gate fee required. Throughout the winter, residents should store hazardous materials in original containers in a cool, dry place, safely away from food, children or pets. Never put hazardous waste in the garbage or down the drain.

Do not mix hazardous materials, refer to warning labels and instructions on products and handle any potentially hazardous materials with care. The City of Sault Ste. Marie thanks the public for their participation in this program and looks forward to serving you at the HHW next season.
