Hospitalizations rise by three, active COVID case count drops: APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting three new COVID-19 related hospitalizations in Algoma.

APH is reporting 16 hospitalizations in the region and an additional hospitalization of a non-Algoma resident that is temporarily in the region.

With 48 new confirmed cases in Algoma, the active case count in the region stands at 576, which is down 10 from Wednesday's update.

There are also four additional active cases in the region that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of resolved cases in Algoma is 2,617, which is up by 58 from Wednesday. 

APH is also reporting that an additional 238 tests were completed in the region since Wednesday's update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
