Hospitalizations drop, active cases up slightly: APH

The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down in the latest update released this afternoon.

After reporting 34 on Tuesday, Algoma Public Health is reporting 28 today though the health unit is also reporting a slight increase in the number of patients admitted for COVID-19 related reasons. The number is up to six, an increase of two from yesterday's report.

The number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 dropped by one today to six while the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons remained the same at one.

The number of active cases in the Algoma region is 215 in today's report, up by seven from yesterday.

APH is reporting 24 newly-confirmed cases, bringing the total to 6,059 in 2022 (8,262 since the beginning of the pandemic).

The number of resolved cases in the region rose by 17 to 8,048.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
