Algoma Public Health is reporting 17 hospitalizations and 582 active COVID-19 cases in Algoma as of Sunday afternoon.

Both are down from Saturday's report.

The hospitalization count is down by one while the number of active cases is four fewer than what they were 24 hours earlier.

There is one additional hospitalization and four additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region. Those numbers are reported on their own and not included with the regional totals.

Sunday's report from APH showed an additional 30 confirmed cases in Algoma, bringing the total number of cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 3,344.

The number of resolved cases in the region is also up. The 2,762 resolved cases is up by 36 from Saturday.

APH also reported 459 additional tests were completed as part of the latest update.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
