Hospital neighbours get burr under their saddle over free street parking

Ward 3 councillors Matthew Shoemaker and Judy Hupponen want a parking ban on Saddle Crescent
2016-04-20 no parking
Saddle Crescent is located immediately east of Sault Area Hospital, just across the Hub Trail. Residents say their street has turned into a free parking lot for people who don't want to pay the hospital's parking rates

An outbreak of the sulkies is ravaging a quiet residential street adjacent to Sault Area Hospital.

Residents of Saddle Crescent complain their street has turned into a free parking lot for people who don't want to pay the hospital's parking rates.

On Monday, Ward 3 councillors Matthew Shoemaker and Judy Hupponen will move to have the street declared a no-parking zone.

Monday's City Council meeting will be livestreamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

No-parking zone on Saddle Crescent

Mover: Councillor M. Shoemaker
Seconder: Councillor J. Hupponen

Whereas Saddle Crescent is not a designated no-parking area; and

Whereas due to its proximity to the Sault Area Hospital, and easy access to the Sault Area Hospital property from the Hub Trail, many vehicles park on Saddle Crescent to avoid paying hospital parking fees; and

Whereas the residents of Saddle Crescent are having their street used as a parking lot; and

Whereas the parking fees for Sault Area Hospital help support critical health care services in the City of Sault Ste. Marie;

Now therefore be it resolved that the legal department be requested to prepare an amendment to the necessary bylaw to make Saddle Crescent a no-parking area.
