Beer Store employees Howie Smith and Dawn Secord (shown) were presented by Mayor Rowswell last night with Good Samaritan Certificates of Appreciation.

The award was given at the request of Sault Ste. Marie's Fire Service, recognizing help provided by Smith and Secord to their co-worker, Terry Freamon, last October 21 at the Bruce Street Beer Store.

City paramedics believe that quick initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by Smith and Secord helped save Freamon's life.

Another beer store employee, Clifford Visitor, had discovered Freamon unconscious on the floor when he ran out of Bud Light and went to borrow some from Freamon's inventory.

Secord, a former nursing student, and Smith then administered CPR.

When paramedics arrived, they found that Freamon had no vital signs.

Applying defribrillation while transporting Freamon, they got him conscious and talking to his attendants by the time he arrived at hospital.

The Good Samaritan Certificates of Appreciation presented to Smith and Secord last night recognized their "compassionate and caring nature" and their willingness to help others in distress.
