The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre in partnership with Women in Tech World and ProtoHack is trying to reduce barriers for women in technology in Sault Ste. Marie - but, they need your help!

On Oct. 27, the Sault Ste Marie Innovation Centre in partnership with ProtoHack and OLG will be welcoming back Women in Tech World to host an afternoon full of brainstorming and networking to find new ways to reduce barriers for women in technology within the community. Susan George, city director of the event and local executive director of STEaM shared, “I’m so excited to be part of this event to allow others to have a voice and contribute to changing the experience for women in the technology sector in Sault Ste. Marie.”

As a result of the incredible participation and success of last year’s Driving WinTech Research Tour, Sault Ste. Marie was offered the unique opportunity to once again encourage both men and women to work together to solve issues within the community. Alicia Close, founder and CEO of Women in Tech World was astonished by the number of people who were committed to taking action to support women in tech stating, "Sault Ste. Marie was one of the most engaged cities across Canada throughout our Driving WinTech research tour last fall."

Last fall’s event focused on identifying barriers that women in the region have faced within technology industries or positions.

Following last year’s event, the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre’s Business Development Manager John Prgomet was very proud to be able to provide another event to continue the conversation and work to identify and help implement solutions that will work for our community. “We look forward to hearing what solutions the region comes up with and how our organization can help to implement those solutions in the region.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre would like to encourage anyone interested in helping to find solutions to the current barriers women in technology face to register here. The event is free to all and includes lunch and an exclusive opportunity to network with some of the top technology professionals in Sault Ste. Marie.

Susan George, executive director of STEaM SSM encourages anyone with professional experience in a technology field to get involved and help our community find solutions. "Many local women in technology that I have met through STEaM, have consistently indicated an interest in helping to remove the barriers they have faced throughout their career. Personally, I wish I’d had this kind of opportunity earlier in my career to offer my voice and collaborate with others to work on ways to remove those barriers.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre would like to thank our sponsors: OLG, FedNor, United Steelworkers Local 2724, Algoma University, ProtoHack, and Women in Tech World.
