Heavy rain possible into this afternoon

Up to 50 mm of rain possible in some areas

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected this morning and into the afternoon, prompting Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement.

Areas affected by the statement include:

  • Agawa - Lake Superior Park
  • Blind River - Thessalon
  • Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake
  • Espanola - Killarney
  • Manitoulin Island
  • Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay

Some locations could see anywhere from 30 to 50 mm before the rain eases and ends this afternoon.

Rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm are possible and rainfall warnings could be issued for some areas 

Heavy downpours are expected and could lead to flash flooding and water pooling on roads.
