Guy gives police false name, ID falls out of his pocket

CITY POLICE NEWS RELEASE

************************* Shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday City Police attended in the area of Wardlaw Fuels on Wellington Street West for an intoxicated male.

During the course of dealing with two males at this location officers learned one of the males was on probation with conditions not to drink.

As a result of this officers arrested Derek Spilman, age 21 of no fixed address, for intoxicated in a public place and breach of probation.

While being taken into custody, the accused broke free from officers and started to run away but was quickly arrested and he started to [allegedly] resist arrest by struggling with the officers.

During this struggle, Mr. Spilman’s friend, an Emery Corbiere, age 23, of 34 Wellington Street West decided to interfere with the police who were attempting to handcuff Mr. Spilman.

Mr. Corbiere was told repeatedly to stop interfering and he did not listen.

When first arrested Mr. Spilman gave a different name but during the struggle that followed Mr. Spilman’s identification fell out of his pocket.

Police arrested both males who both have court dates of September 27th.

Mr. Spilman was been charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of obstruct police by providing a different name, and one count of resist arrest in addition to being charged with being intoxicated in a public place.

Mr. Corbiere has been charged with one count of obstruct police.
