Have you ever wanted to participate in the Amazing Race? Algoma University’s staff and students will bring a sense of adventure and competition to campus as Grade 11 students from across the Algoma region compete in their own rendition of the popular television series.

On May 25 and 26, the University will host their annual Grade 11 Days, which feature two hours of action-packed racing.

Approximately 200 students from high schools in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding Algoma region, including Hornepayne, Manitouwadge, Wawa, and Espanola will attend Grade 11 Days for an opportunity to get a dynamic tour of the University.

The tour will include the Essar Convergence Centre, and the newly renovated George Leach Centre (GLC).

Faculty, staff, and students from several departments at the University will be involved in the days’ activities.

Students from out-of-town high schools will also get the unique experience of living in residence. They will stay overnight in the University’s newest single-room residence, Algoma Dormitory.

“Every year we adapt the Grade 11 Days program to meet the needs of today’s students,” said Brent Krmpotich, Director of Student Recruitment. “The theme of this year’s event is success at university and beyond. We expect students to leave campus with a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful student at university and how to translate that success into a rewarding career. Hopefully their experience on campus will encourage them to consider Algoma U when choosing a university next year.”

After being welcomed onto campus, groups of eight to 10 students will begin racing to complete various challenges and tasks at each location, with the assistance of Admissions Advisors, staff, and student volunteers.

The top three teams who finish the race first successfully on each day will be given prizes.

Students who compete will also be entered into a random draw for a $1,000 Algoma University tuition reward, awarded at the end of each day’s competition.
