A Goulais River man has been fined a total of $3,500 for deer hunting offences.

Michael Tuomela pleaded guilty and was fined $2,500 for unlawfully hunting deer without a licence and $1,000 for unlawfully using another person’s deer licence. He also received a three-year hunting suspension.

Court heard that on November 13, 2016, a conservation officer inspected two deer hanging in a garage located on St. Joseph Island. A small buck was found with a game seal belonging to someone other than Tuomela.

Further investigation revealed that Tuomela had already used his deer game seal on a deer in the early archery season, and had killed this buck without a valid deer hunting licence.

Justice of the Peace Kathleen Bryant heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sault Ste. Marie, on May 3, 2017.
